When I was in my late teens I felt called to go into ministry. Following high school, I entered into the pre-seminary program at Concordia University in St. Paul. I was very excited about learning Bible, Theology & Biblical Languages. I might be so bold as to say that I was fairly gifted in New Testament Greek. Through a series of personal choices and life circumstances I took a very different road than the one I had pictured at the start. I eventually finished with a degree in management and network administration and a 2nd major in Christian studies. I’ve been steadily moving up in the IT world and am now in management at a software company. I’ve really gone back and forth on this issue of calling over the past 12 years. No matter how successful I am in my professional pursuits, I have a deep longing to get back on the track from which I deviated 12 years ago. I just can’t seem to kick it, that’s where my heart is. Please pray for me as I take things more seriously this time around and work through this. If you’re also struggling with the issue of calling, I’d recommend The Summons: Exploring the Call to Ministry MP3 Download Set. (Don’t worry it’s free.) This has been very helpful to me as I work through this issue. Also, let me know if you have any book or online video suggestions on this topic. I’ve also found Called to the Ministry by Edmund P. Clowney to be very helpful as well.
