I love these commercials, they’re so funny!

You have to remember that the genius of Seinfeld (the show) was that it was a show about nothing. Jerry Senfeld’s comedy has always been about the mundane. I think that these commercials are in a similar vein, i.e., being about nothing and making the mundane funny.

Think about it: one of the world’s most successful sitcom stars is walking through the mall and happens to see one of the richest men in the world trying on shoes at a Shoe Circus (am establishment of which he is a member and earns “big top points” with every purchase). That’s hilarious! And the second one: they just want to connect with regular people. Ping pong, no money for the pizza, giraffe thievery, classic!!!

I think that the marketing gimmick is basically this: Apple is appealing to a younger, hipper crowd with their ad campaign, but Microsoft is reaching out the the regular folk. Jerry and Bill are for the people.

That’s the sense I was getting too. They’re definitely trying to portray Gates & Seinfeld as reaching out to the regular folk. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. 😉

Yea, that is a bit confusing. Almost as if the marketing division had way to much say so about “what kind of things” certain demographics would find appealing. It’s like reality t.v. with the odd humor of The Office or something. Very odd.
