I was inspired when I read T. Michael W. Halcomb’s account of his field trip to Baker & Eerdmans over in Grand Rapids, MI. Since I’m on vacation this week, I thought I should have a field trip of my own. My afternoon was completely open, so I drove over to Loome Theological Booksellers in Stillwater, MN. This is a unique shopping experience as the store is inside an old Swedish Covenant Church. There are bookshelves in every conceivable nook and cranny, even the balconies. I would venture to guess that their collection is nearing 300,000 volumes. You never know what you’ll find. I simply enjoy browsing the shelves and spent at least 90 minutes wandering around. Ultimately, I settled on a nearly perfect copy of The Apostolic Fathers: Greek Texts and English Translations (Baker 1999). I really would like to get the 3rd edition, which Baker put out last year, but I was very happy to find the 2nd edition for $15. If you’re a fellow Bible Geek in the twin cities metro area, I’d highly recommend paying Loome Theological Booksellers a visit. For those who are far away, you may want to pay a visit to their web site. You’ll be able to order titles from them via the web. Their URL is www.loomebooks.com. Happy shopping.

I’m jealous! We’ve gone to Stillwater often, but I never knew of this place. We’ll have to check it out.
Bob,
It’s worth the visit. I could probably get lost in there for hours. I wouldn’t recommend bringing the kids as it’s a bit crowded and remember if you break it, you buy it.
I hear ya. Maybe my wife and I can go there sometime on one of our rare dates. She loves books too.
Baker had tons of books too, not nearly this many, but goodness gracious, they were still outrageous!!! If I’m ever in MN, I’ll certainly find this place!
