(sung to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas)
On the 10th & 11th days before Christmas, Bible Geek Gone Wild gave to me a chance to win some books and maybe some DVDs……
Welcome to days 10 & 11 of Bible Geek Gone Wild’s 12 Days Before Christmas. My apologies for not posting day 10 yesterday as I was unavoidably out of town. I’ve decided to combine days 10 & 11 together and offer 2 fabulous prize packs. Many thanks to Rosemary Parkinson at Concordia Publishing House, India Cannon at B & H Publishing Group, and Lindsey Rodarmer at Zonderkidz for providing the prizes for today’s contest. There will be a 1st & 2nd place winner for today’s contest. The first place winner will receive:

This book looks at the education of C. S. Lewis, both as he received it in his formative years and as he dispensed it in his mature years.
Lewis forged a strong understanding of the value of education in life. What he proposed and illustrated in his writings and modeled in the classroom is a passion for education in the classical tradition and a commitment to truth in the context of the Christian faith. Lewis’s defense of objective truth and the kind of curriculum that would support such truth form the foundation of his thought.
Views on the purpose of education, model schools, and the Inner Ring also are explored along with the effectiveness of Lewis’s use of analogy and other techniques to shape both the heads and the hearts of his students. The analysis of Lewis’s educational philosophy and practice culminates in application of this philosophy and practice to current issues and challenges in modern education and modern Christian education: objective truth, pedagogy, curriculum, interdisciplinary thinking, the purpose of education, “head and heart,” and much more.

What is “Christian” about Christian education; how is it different from non-Christian education? A Theology for Christian Education examines this question in depth and argues that the doctrines of systematic theology should drive the content, purpose, and methods of the educational program of the church. The book states:
“Christian education is distinct from other kinds of education in that its aim is the transformation of the whole person into the likeness of Christ (Col. 1 :28). Christian education is the process of accomplishing this aim.”
A Theology for Christian Education dedicates chapters to examining particular doctrines and their implications for Christian education. It is the only serious academic text to offer a systematic presentation of the intersection of theology and Christian education from a conservative evangelical perspective.
The 2nd place winner will receive:

This DVD contains two classic Storykeepers episodes. In Sink or Swim, a secret search for Justin’s father on a Roman slave ship leads to high sea adventure for Ben, Helena, and the children. Trapped aboard the galley when it leaves port, they find themselves headed for battle against a rebel slave ship. In Starlight Escape, Ben, Helena, and the kids narrowly avoid capture by Nero’s soldiers when their wheel breaks. While the wheel is being mended, Ben and Helena take the kids on a journey back to the days of Mary and Joseph and tell them about the birth of Jesus.
Children will learn one of the most wonderful stories of all time, the birth of Jesus. By the end of the story, children will understand why we celebrate this special day.

One word: Tamales.
OK,six more: It gives me something to unwrap.
Not a bad choice for Christmas in light of the unwrapping.
Ok, I’ll play! The children’s DVDs make it totally worth it.
My favorite Christmas treat is chocolate covered cherries. Every year my family gets together with my parents and Peter, my mom, and I spend an afternoon making dozens and dozens of chocolate covered cherries by hand. We bring a few home to sample while we wait for Christmas to finally arrive. That’s when we get to eat the rest–and get really sick from all the sugar.
Cherries are really in close competition with pickled herring as my favorite Christmas treat, but we sometimes have pickled herring at Thanksgiving, too. The chocolate covered cherries are strictly for Christmas and got to be Top Pick.
That’s a hard choice, to find a favorite food.
In the end, I must say it is chicken and dumplings.
Mmmmmmm, mmmmmmmmmmm! That chicken all boiled to tender goodness and deboned. The dough rolled out, cut into strips and dropped into the hot chicken broth with the deboned chicken, then ladled out into a bowl to be eaten with gusto and the last juices sopped up with a hot roll!
Opsithast! I’ve drooled on my keyboard and mssdedsd it llsla uppu?!
As long as I can remember, I have had Swedish meatballs and Swedish sausage on Christmas Eve. You can’t just have one of them, you have to have both!
It started at my Grandma’s house, with all my dad’s clan and later morphed to having it at my mom and dad’s. We will be having tomorrow night at my mom’s. It’s kinda sad that the group is getting smaller, but Christmas eve would not be the same if we didn’t eat this wonderful items.
