I got an e-mail from a long time friend this afternoon asking me for my thoughts about Love Wins by Rob Bell. For those of us who follow our favorite bibliophiles and book reviewers around the blogosphere, it may seem like this discussion is already past. However, we should keep in mind that many of our friends and family who are not quite as obsessive about books may be encountering Bell’s new book just now. I explained to my friend that while I have not read Rob Bell’s new book, a lot of the book reviewers I follow and respect have expressed extreme concern and caution over the direction Rob takes in the book. I suggested he check out the following reviews:
Some of you may be wondering if I will actually read Love Wins. While, I certainly won’t be buying a copy, I’d be happy to give it a whirl if somebody wants to lend or gift me a copy. Like many of you, I tend to read a lot of authors I agree with. Every now and then I find it’s a good idea to stretch my mind and work through a book I probably won’t agree with.

Over at Theologica we collected a bunch of reviews and what not. If you’re readers are wondering here’s the link. http://theologica.ning.com/forum/topics/rob-bells-new-book-love-wins
When possible, I tried to post excerpts.
Thanks Rey.
Just following up from Rey’s comment, I came across this review by Scott while perusing the above link: http://thetenthleper.com/category/book-reviews/
I’ve really appreciated Scott’s approach to the book, his writing style is amusing and easy to follow, I’m not finished reading it (there are several posts), but I would kind of love it if every difficult/controversial book was reviewed like this – respectfully, prayerfully, biblically.
Ann,
Thanks for the additional link. I’ll be sure to check out Scott’s review. I just listened to a recent White Horse Inn podcast this morning on the topic of heaven & hell (LINK). In this episode, the White Horse Inn crew speaks with Kevin DeYoung about his lengthy review of Love Wins as well as his forthcoming book titled What is the Mission of the Church? (Crossway, 2011).
I too did not want to spend my money on a copy. I finally went to audible.com and signed up for the free trial during which you can download the audio to one book, I downloaded Love Wins. Its not the same as reading it, but its as close as I’ll get.
Kevin,
I’m glad you found a way to acquire a copy for free. Way to be creative.
I’m looking forward to exploring this site. I notice you mention Rob Bell’s book – Love Wins. I meet with 4 other men every Wednesday for fellowship, discussing biblical verses etc, and generally having a good time – knowing there is always an unseen Presence with us, guiding the conversation!! I thought you might like to know I’ve published a collection of poetry on the above website – FREEDOM RECLAIMED. It is also for sale on http://www.amazon.com. You can look at some of the poems on http://christian-topics.info. I’ve also added more on my blog – http://thegrimkedraytonnotes.blogspot.com. Before I close, I’d like to recommend a book – TrueFaced. It describes the difference between trying to please God by our “good works” and trusting Him for all He wants to give us with His unconditional love as expressed in Jesus Christ. God bless.
I see the website I mentioned is not in the body of the previous message. Here it is: http://www.augustabooks.co.uk.
Thanks Bill. I’ll check it out.
