Paul L. Maier is one of my favorite authors of all time. I was excited to see the announcement today that Eusebius: The Church History has hit the milestone of 50,000 copies in print. I highly recommend this and any other book that bears Dr. Maier’s name. See the announcement from Kregel below:
GRAND RAPIDS, MI—Eusebius: The Church History (hardcover) has reached the milestone of 50,000 copies in print. This book has become the choice for those wishing to study Eusebius, as it offers the best translation of the text as well as astute summary and analysis of each chapter by Dr. Paul L. Maier. Much of our knowledge of the first three centuries of Christianity–the terrible persecutions, the courageous martyrs, and the theological controversies–come from Eusebius, a historian in the first century A.D.. More than 150 full-color photographs help the text come alive for the reader, while charts and maps organize the information, making it more accessible.
Mark Galli, senior managing editor of Christianity Today, praised this volume, saying, “There is no book more important to understanding the early church than Eusebius’s Church History. And there is no edition more readable and engaging than this one.”
As Mark Noll (Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History, University of Notre Dame) said upon the book’s release: “Well-translated, carefully introduced editions of ancient texts are the lifeblood of real history. . . . Kregel’s publication of a new translation of Eusebius’s Church History by Paul L. Maier is, therefore, an important event.”
The book is also available in a paperback edition.
