I think the idea that all Christians should be Republican is one of the great misfortunes of our time and has hurt the mission of both groups (Christians wanting to further God’s kingdom, and Republicans wanting to further small government/individual responsibility/lots-o-military/etc). I’d actually like to see a stronger separation of the church and state. They have different goals, and it’s too much of a mess when they get combined.
I like that the video makes a point that God isn’t a dem or rep (which is a message I think more people need to hear), but I’m not sure about the claim that God wants us to be involved in politics. Having a king wasn’t God’s idea, that was ours, and God was pretty clear that he thought it a bad idea at that.
For me personally, I look at how Christ related to individuals and groups of people. And then I vote for the candidates that model that behavior the closest, and will cause that behavior to be modeled in our country. They don’t have to be a christian, and they don’t have to get every last issue right. They just have to act the most Christ-like to their fellow citizens. For my read of the Bible, that’s all about love and forgiveness.
