Posted by Shaun Tabatt  Published in Baker books, Deals of the Day

I wanted to share the following press release from Baker Academic announcing their new E-book shorts:

New E-book Shorts from Robert Gundry’s Commentary on the New Testament

Baker Academic is proud to announce new ebook shorts from Robert H. Gundry.

In these verse-by-verse commentaries taken from Commentary on the New Testament, Robert Gundry offers a fresh, literal translation and a reliable exposition of every book of the New Testament.

Students and scholars will welcome Gundry’s nontechnical explanations and clarifications, and readers at all levels will appreciate his sparkling interpretations. Priced from $1.99 to $5.99 these affordable and convenient resources are available wherever ebooks are sold.

As we celebrate the release of this series, Baker Academic will be making selected entries from this commentary series free for one day only.

On Monday January 9th, Gundry’s commentary on Ephesians will be free to download for 24 hours on Amazon, CBD, and Barnes & Noble.

This will be followed by other selections made free to download on January 16th and 23rd.

For more information on this series, click here.

Praise for Robert Gundry’s Commentary on the New Testament:

This is a great resource in a great format for a great purpose from a great scholar. Bob Gundry has been a treasure for people who love the Bible for many years, and this is one of his richest gifts to us yet.”

—John Ortberg

“Like having a wonderful tour guide to a foreign country, Gundry’s study of the New Testament introduces and guides one through the many joys and causes for reflection that are a part of a trip through the New Testament. The guidance provided is judicious in its choices of what to comment on and skilled in its presentation of the key ideas. It will surely serve well those who use it.”

—Darrell Bock

“There is no better single-volume commentary on the New Testament than the one Bob Gundry has written. It offers succinct, fast-paced commentary, yet without neglecting the important points of interpretation. Busy pastors, students, laity, and even veteran scholars will find much in this commentary to appreciate. It belongs in every library and study.”

—Craig A. Evans

“This is not just another ho-hum commentary, the product of someone reading and repackaging previous commentaries. This is rather the fruit of a lifetime of close, intense attention to the text of the Greek New Testament; the upshot is that one happily finds on every page of this exegetical treasure fresh readings and independent judgments.”

—Dale C. Allison Jr.

“Gundry’s magnum opus culminates the life’s work of one of our generation’s preeminent New Testament scholars. The weight of this commentary is matched by the substance of Gundry’s interpretation within its pages, reflecting his lifetime of scholarship. This one-volume commentary on the New Testament is a rare accomplishment that must find a place on the bookshelf of every serious preacher, teacher, and student of Scripture.”

Mail Call: Baker Books

Posted by Shaun Tabatt  Published in Baker books, Books

When I arrived home today there was a FedEx box waiting for me.  Turns out the kind folks at Baker Books sent along four books for review.  The titles are:

  • The God Who is There by D.A. Carson
  • Grounded in the Gospel by J.I. Packer & Gary A. Parrett
  • The A to Z Guide to Finding it in the Bible
  • Drawing Closer to God by Dianne Neal Matthews

I was familiar with the book by Carson, but this is my first exposure to the other three.  All of them look interesting in their own right.  I will write more on these titles once I’ve had a chance to dig in to them a bit.

Book Review: In the Shadow of Grace: The Life and Meditations of G. Campbell Morgan

Posted by Shaun Tabatt  Published in Baker books, Book Review, Books

Buy this book on Amazon! In the Shadow of Grace: The Life and Meditations of G. Campbell Morgan is a quick read at only 121 pages.  The eight chapters cover different periods of time in the life of G. Campbell Morgan.  Each chapter brings together the difficulties and challenges he was facing correlated to the sermons and writings he delivered during that time.  Although this isn’t a traditional biography, it presents a unique look into the mind and spiritual life of a man who was greatly used by God is his generation.  It is exciting to see such a work compiled and edited by three of Morgan’s own grandsons.  I strongly encourage pastors and seminarians to read and savor this short, but impactful work.  This book is available from Amazon and many other retailers.
