If you have a Kindle or iPad, I encourage you to take a few minutes and listen to some of the innovative ideas Kevin Rose has for the social media potential of internet connected e-book readers. Many thanks to Bitsy Griffin who blogs over at Jack Of All Trades (bgjackofalltrades.wordpress.com) for bringing it to my attention.

I’m catching up on e-mails and just got notice that Hershel Shanks, editor of Biblical Archaeology Review has published his autobiography titled Freeing the Dead Sea Scrolls and Other Adventures of an Archaeology Outsider. It is published by Continuum and will be available July 24, 2010. Richard Bernstein had some good things to say about Shanks and his autobiography in the recent New York Times article titled Shining a Light on Ancient Israel. Jim West brings a different perspective in his recent blog post at Zwinglius Redivivus titled Really Hershel, Really?. Personally, I’m a long time subscriber to Biblical Archaeology Review and am excited to delve in to Shanks’ autobiography, even if Jim West isn’t happy about it.

I was excited to receive review copy of A Reader’s Hebrew and Greek Bible yesterday from the kind folks at Zondervan Academic. This new edition combines both A Reader’s Hebrew Bible and A Reader’s Greek New Testament into a single volume. The binding is fine-grain European black leather. Another nice feature are two marker ribbons, which will allow you to easily keep your place in both testaments. I have previously reviewed both A Reader’s Greek New Testament, 2nd Edition (LINK) and A Reader’s Hebrew Bible (LINK). My forthcoming review of A Reader’s Hebrew and Greek Bible will compare this new combined edition to the previous separate editions.
